Kefalonia Pt.4 - The Ruins

My dad's village, along with most others on the island were raised to the ground in the massive earthquake of 1953. After several years living in shelters, the British government decided to rebuild the village for the citizens. However, instead of demolishing the old houses, they decided to build the new village a bit further down the hill.

So the remains of the old village are still there and are accessible to anyone who can be bothered walking up there. It was quite surreal to see the actual house my dad grew up in and to see it as foundations and rubble.

No this isn't the face of a caramelo koala. These were used to crush grapes to make wine.
