Paris Pt.3 - Sightseeing

We were in Paris for almost a week, filling our days battling the public transport system, climbing lots and lots and lots of stairs, getting lost and trying to do our best with what little french we could learn that day … "Je voudrais deux baguettes s'il vous plait". To give you the full play-by-play would be boring for everyone so instead, here are the greatest hits.

MUSEUMS

Rodin

Contemporary art piece. You probably can't tell but it stands 10 metres tall.

The details were inspired by Paris architecture such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.

The Thinker.

Rodin's house.

 The Kiss.

Louvre

Outside view of the Louvre.

Pyramid.

Nerdy architecture shot of the Louvre.

Cupid and Psych.

Aphrodite/ Venus de Milo (mmmm gummi venus).

We got a much better view of her in the gift shop!

For some reason this exhibit was the only one you weren't allowed to take photos of (although we didn't know at the time). Immediately after taking this photo a guard stormed up and said "bad photo!" I replied "Yes, it was an awful photo!" before putting the camera away.

Mesopotamia rocks the beard!

Inside Napoleon's Apartments.

Dude sketching one of the sculptures.

Pompidou

Main foyer.

Rob's first 'Picasso'.

Ummmm, still don't understand this piece of "art".

Outside view of the Pompidou.

Palace of Versailles

In front of the Palace's fancy golden gates.

The chapel built by King Louis XIV.

The 'Hall of Mirrors' lost some of it's magic with so many tourists crowding around.

The door Marie Antoinette escaped through.

One of the many fountains in the Palace garden.

One of the 'Garden Guards'. They are employed to blow whistles at people who touch any of the scultpures or plants. Ali got busted big time for patting a topiary hahaha.

Monuments/ Landmarks

Eiffel Tower

Stupid things you do in front of the eiffel tower.

Arc De Triomphe

 The Arc De Triomphe.

Ali in the tunnel.

Under the Arc.

The first of many stairs we climbed in Paris!

View of paris from Arc De Triomphe.

View of the round-about. Do they have any idea what they're doing down there?

Religious Experiences

Basilique Du Sacre Coeur

Sacre Coeur from the bottom of the hill.

Close up of the building, including the top dome which we climbed to the top of.

Like many others before us, we decided to leave our mark on Sacre Coeur. In return, Ali was struck down. While making our way down the stairs, she slipped resulting in a graze on her wrist and a bruised tailbone :(

Notre Dame

Side view of the cathedral.

Cool brass work on the entrance to the cathedral.

While we were lining up to go to the top of Notre Dame, this street performer kept walking up behind people and scaring the absolute cr@p out of them. He was very good and kept the line entertained for almost an hour.

Street performer in action.

Street performer with one of the tallest guys I've seen, a 'Big Foot' if you will.

Funnily enough, while our 'Big Foot' was standing in front of us in the line, he rested his big foot on a traffic cone called "Big Foot" hahaha.

It was freezing while we waited in line to go to the top of Notre Dame. Ali got so cold that she borrowed my jumper and wore her scarf on her head. Along with her black sneakers, black skirt and small piece of paper (ok, I planted that one) she looked exactly like a Gypsy you'd see at any major tourist attraction.

Gargoyle

Rob touching one of the bells.

Misc

Champs-Elysess

Outside Louis Vutton - For you Kylie :)

Kylie, they have Ugg boots now!!!

Montmartre

The entrance to the Abbesses train station which is a LONG way underground. If we'd known we would of taken the lift!

3D street art.

We had lunch at the bistro on the right.

Other

Aahh, Paris. A city with men who bring me delicious raspberries….

Hawkers running from the cops.

The impressive views from our hotel room *cough*

 Alice & Rob.
