Switzerland Pt.1 - Schwyz

Before we left Australia, my mum gave me a piece of paper with a couple of phone numbers. One of those numbers was Tracy's, a cousin of mine whom I'd actually only met once before in New Zealand. For the last 13 years she'd been living in Switzerland and as we knew we'd be heading there, Alice and I thought it would be nice to catch up for lunch or something while we were in the area.

Cut to a month or so later and we had a slight change of plan. I called Tracy to let her know we were pretty close and see whether she wanted to catch up. Instead, she generously invited Alice and I to actually stay with her and the family in Schwyz! We ended up staying with Tracy, Adrian, Christian and Hamish (their golden labrador) for 5 nights in their beautiful home overlooking the lakes and mountains of the Swiss countryside.

Alice and I were so spoilt while we there. Every morning Tracy would go out of her way to prepare a delicious breakfast for us. Coffee, cereal, the freshest croissants from her local bakery, toast, yoghurt … definitely the best breakfasts of the trip!!!

Each night they'd treat us to a traditional Swiss meal and each night it was absolutely delicious! We even had fondue on our last night there, despite the fact that it was summer and it's almost unheard of to be eating fondue when it's hot outside :)

The canton of Schwyz is so beautiful. It is so green (because it rains all the time - although not a drop while we were there) and the lakes are so blue, I'd never seen anything like it before. There's actually a lot of history there given that it's one of Switzerland's founding cantons. In fact, if I remember correctly, it has the oldest house in all of Switzerland! Pretty cool. Definitely an awesome place to base ourselves for our week in Switzerland.

The oldest house in Switzerland.
